A Note to Our Valued Customers: Our Pistachios Are Safe
At Master Chocolat, we know that many of you have seen headlines about the recent salmonella outbreak affecting pistachios and pistachio-containing products. We want to address this directly, and reassure you that our pistachio-based chocolates and confections remain safe.
Why Master Chocolat is Safe
At Master Chocolat, we take ingredient sourcing and food safety extremely seriously. We want to highlight the important ways our approach differs from the recalled products:
-
Our pistachios (as well as almonds) come from growers in California, and are then imported to Canada for further preparation, not from the regions impacted by any of the recent recalls.
-
Once in Canada, our pistachios are carefully inspected, handled under strict quality-control protocols, and processed in our Canadian kitchens before being incorporated into any of our chocolates, confections, or baked-good recipes.
-
We rigorously follow all Canadian food-safety regulations. Because the outbreak traced largely to pistachios imported from certain international sources (not North America), our supply chain was unaffected by the contamination.
What’s going on and what’s being recalled:
-
In 2025, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a broad food-safety investigation and recall for many pistachios and pistachio-containing products. Canadian Food Inspection Agency+2Canada+2
-
The recall list has since grown substantially: over 130 different products, sold across multiple provinces, have been pulled from the marketplace due to possible contamination. Food Safety News+2Newswire+2
-
The recalled items include raw pistachios, roasted pistachios, and a variety of prepared goods such as chocolates, baklava, desserts, nuts-mixes and more. Recalls and Safety Alerts+2Canadian Food Inspection Agency+2

Importantly, some of the recalled pistachios are traced back to certain international growers, including shipments originating from countries with recent import restrictions. Recalls and Safety Alerts+2Canada+2
